SKSE - Skyrim Script Extender

The next mod I have decided to cover is not your typical mod, rather a driver that enables you to use many mods that would be to far to complex to use normally. SKSE (Skyrim Script Extender) is used to power many mods including SkyUI, RaceMenu and other mods I plan on covering. I probably should have probably reviewed it first, but yolo. (I'm kidding).

This mod is really just an alternate launcher, pretty straight forward. Just copy some files into your Skyrim folder, create a shortcut and you are ready to roll. Or if you are feeling particularly lazy you could even use the installer.

Well, that's about it, nothing overly fancy or complex about SKSE, but it is such an important mod that living without it and the other mods it enables us to use is unimaginable.

I have decided that I should probably link stuff for convenience so here you go:

The first Mod - SkyUI

SkyUI is an essential to any skyrim gamer, (Sorry consolers) and is perhaps the most well known mod for skyrim. This mod drastically changes the interface/inventory of skyrim to a more user friendly, and aesthetically pleasing layout. Skyrim's default layout seems considerably underdeveloped and not thought out to well. An example of this is how the font size in the vanilla layout is a lot bigger than it needs to be. Add to this the unnecessary amount of scrolling to find one particular item and we can see how a mod like SkyUI is needed to make this game much more enjoyable.

Features:

The vanilla layout in all it's failed glory..

The much better, more useful SkyUI layout boasts tab-like categories  and symbols beside the items name for easier selection and recognition. (Another thing fixed that annoyed many players, including myself, is not having the inventory behind the task bar at the bottom).

In addition SkyUI includes a better favourites section that goes so far as to allow you to create amour sets which enables you to equip multiple items at once. This mod also adds to the map system of Skyrim by including a search for places you have already visited, making adventuring in this game inexplicably easier.

In conclusion, I believe that this mod is vital to this game if you are looking to get a better interface and better overall experience out of Skyrim. Because of this, I highly recommend this mod to any Skyrim gamer.

Just the Beginning...

In this blog I will take one of my favourite games, Skyrim, and share with you what modifications I have used to make the game more enjoyable and immersive. The mods will range from essential; mods you will never turn off, to mods that just make the game more beautiful, and all the small mods in between that caught my eye. I feel it is important to say that I am in no way a modder myself, I simply enjoy using different mods to enhance my gaming experience. I'm doing this because it is something I am passionate about and hopefully I can provide some insight to whether or not you want to try this mod yourself. With that said I can start reviewing mods.. Yay!
